Project Audace

A Countryside Manor Revived & Reconfigured for a French–American Family

This project involved the complete renovation and reconfiguration of a historic countryside residence for a French–American family. The house, rich with character, required a thoughtful approach to circulation, spatial organization, and functionality in order to better suit the family’s daily life.

From the entrance and stairwell to the bedrooms on the first floor, every level was reconsidered. On the ground floor, we transformed underused spaces into a series of multifunctional rooms that can flex between roles: a writer’s office, guest room, music room, and play space.

We reimagined the flow of the home, blocking some doors, opening new ones, and creating new partitions. Instead of pursuing the myth of a vast open plan—which often felt cold and impersonal—we delineated spaces to encourage intimacy, comfort, and versatility.

Custom joinery was designed and built for the office and music room, adjoining areas carved out of what was once a large, little-used hall. On the first floor, we redesigned the master bedroom and its adjoining antechamber, transforming the latter into a cozy reading nook. The children’s bedroom became a magical, imaginative space tailored for a little girl’s world of play and wonder.

Throughout the home, vibrant motifs and bespoke details were introduced to complement the house’s historic features, giving it new life while honoring its past. The result is a residence that feels both deeply personal and richly functional—an elegant balance of heritage and contemporary family living.
